Have you lost weight and noticed that your skin is undergoing some changes in volume? Both aging and weight loss can lead to a loss of muscle and fat in the face, resulting in eyes that look sunken, cheeks that lack volume, and skin that wrinkles and sags around the mouth. The hands, buttocks, and knees may also begin to sag.

At La Touche Élite Aesthetics in Myrtle Beach, SC, board-certified registered nurse anesthetist Jeanine Christian-La Touche helps those who have lost weight restore volume to drooping skin for a more youthful look. To do so, she uses dermal fillers like RADIESSE®, as well as a special technique involving Hyperdilute RADIESSE.

Keep reading to discover how we can help restore lost vibrancy and volume if caused by weight loss.

How does RADIESSE work?

RADIESSE is a popular choice of injectable filler with a few advantages that may make it an excellent choice for nonsurgical cosmetic needs. It's made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, a mineral similar to your bones and teeth. This natural composition makes it less likely to cause an allergic reaction or be rejected by the body, which can occasionally happen with synthetic fillers.

RADIESSE not only adds volume on the spot, but it stimulates collagen production in your skin, even after the microspheres have been absorbed. Collagen is a protein that gives the skin structure and elasticity, and our bodies produce less of it as we age. By ramping up collagen production, RADIESSE can have a longer-lasting anti-aging effect on the volume and contour of your face.

What does RADIESSE treat that helps people who have lost weight?

As you lose fat, some areas of the body can begin to look hollow and more aged because the skin no longer has the collagen to help the skin snap back into place.

RADIESSE microspheres help naturally restore volume while smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. It will not make you look bigger, but will be just enough volume to help plump sagging or wrinkled skin on and around the following areas:

  • Cheeks
  • Jawline
  • Temples
  • Around the mouth
  • Around the nose
  • The backs of the hands

Our use of Hyperdilute RADIESSE injections can address volume loss in a broader range of areas. Hyperdilute RADIESSE involves diluting the RADIESSE solution with saline to create a lower concentration of CaHA microspheres, which allows for broader and more diffuse placement of the filler in areas like:

  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Arms
  • Décolletage
  • Abdomen
  • Knees

What can I expect from RADIESSE injections?

Getting RADIESSE injections is a simple process. Jeanine will use a fine needle to inject RADIESSE into the targeted areas of the face or hands and then gently massage the treated areas to ensure even distribution. Any mild discomfort can typically be alleviated with a numbing cream, and the treatment takes around 30 minutes.

It's important to avoid touching or massaging the treated areas or sleeping on the face for at least 24 hours after the treatment to avoid disrupting the careful placement of the microspheres. After that, you don't need to think about it. You will see some results almost immediately and continue to see improvement in the following weeks.
